On November 1, 1992, Little Rock Baptist Church (LRBC) held its first worship service, thanks to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This church was formed by a small group that stepped out on faith after months of Bible Study in the Pastor's home. The group made a commitment to carry out that great commission given in Matthew 28:19-20 "...to spread the gospel in the world". Blessed by obtaining this location, it was transformed from a mere alarm shop to a Holy Sanctuary within three days. This would have been impossible without the prayers and work of special friends and the nine members that joined on that first Sunday morning. The nine charter members that joined on that first Sunday Service were: Pastor Wilford O. Noel, Sr. (deceased), Deacon Nathaniel Turner, Deacon Altonia Brown, Deaconess Rosa Noel, Deaconess Leslie Turner, Deaconess Karon Brown, Sister Ann (Davis) Burley, Sister Debra (Davis) Hanible and Sister Helen Mackey (deceased). For the next four and one half years under the leadership of the Founder and Late Pastor Wilford O. Noel, Sr., The Little Rock Baptist Church Family accomplished many things for the Lord. The Church under Pastor Noel held Bible Study, held services monthly at the Central Union Mission in Washington, D.C., held services every second Sunday at the Bradford Oak Nursing Home, men and women's fellowships, fall and spring revivals, Youth Sundays, Vacation Bible School, food drives and assisted needy families. LRBC also held Toastmaster classes, ordained three Deacons and licensed one Minister, baptized believers annually at the river (Eagle Harbor) and maintained regular fellowship with sister churches. Pastor Noel labored in love at Little Rock and when his work was done, God called him from Labor to Reward on March 29, 1997. His memory remains with us, his foundation is firm and we are left to build and carry out the "Great Commission." Supported by our sister churches, the spirits of Little Rock members were encouraged and uplifted by the Word of God. After a six-month mourning period Rev. James A. Smith was asked to be the interim pastor for a year, beginning in October of 1997. As he preached the Word of God, the church continued in the established ministries, such as the men and women fellowship, Bible Study, Vacation Bible School and Fall and Spring Revivals. We have sponsored a Ski Trip for our youth, and held Youth Revivals where youth were blessed in dance, comedy, songs, and preaching. We also held our first Church Community Day, there were games, food and activities for the youth. The PG County Police Department volunteered to do fingerprinting and gave lectures on different programs such as the D.A.R.E. We passed out flyers in the neighboring community to announce our Comunity Day activities and the neighbors were very receptive. On October 24, 1998, Rev. James A. Smith was installed as Pastor of Little Rock Baptist Church. Rev. Thomas from the New Psalmist Baptist Church of Baltimore delivered a heartrending message on "The Mission of the Pastorate." He reminded us of our upcoming responsibilities and Pastor Smith capped it off by saying the sum of his mission is what the church was founded on "The Great Commission" spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. On December 24, 2000, Rev. James A. Smith resigned as Pastor of Little Rock Baptist Church. While in the process of looking for another Pastor, Rev. Daniel Reeves, served as Interim Pastor. On August 12, 2001, Rev. Daniel Reeves was elected as the new Pastor of Little Rock and was officially installed as the Pastor on November 17, 2001. |
